Our Founding Legacy
The seeds of Impact Service Group were planted in 1966 when Mark Benson’s grandfather resolved an argument between a grocery store owner and a contractor. Recognizing the disconnect between blue-collar contractors and white-collar business owners, Mark’s grandfather, Irving, and father, Arthur, launched Sure Air Ltd. in New York City. With technical expertise from Rich Wetchler’s father, Jack, Sure Air quickly became a trailblazer, introducing innovative solutions like robot used at trade shows and building a foundation for modern HVAC management.
By the 1980s, Sure Air had grown into the first national HVAC service management firm, setting a standard for excellence in a burgeoning industry. Mark and Rich both joined the business in the early 1990s, each bringing unique strengths: Rich focused on customer relationships, while Mark cultivated a robust vendor network. Together, they carried forward the family’s vision of bridging gaps and delivering unmatched service.
The Birth of Impact Service Group
When Sure Air was sold in 2001, both Rich and Mark faced professional crossroads. With a shared passion for the HVAC industry and a wealth of experience, they decided to chart their own path. In March 2002, over pumpkin seeds and brainstorming sessions in Rich’s basement, Impact Service Group was born.
The company was established with a clear focus on providing exceptional HVAC services, avoiding expansion into other trades to maintain a specialized expertise. This approach fostered a reputation for reliability and quality. The first service call, completed for a retail store in Iowa, Louisiana, set the standard for a customer-first philosophy that continues to guide operations today.
Our Growth and Values

The longevity of its team underscores this commitment, with the first two full-time employees, hired in 2003, still part of the organization today.
